The Civil Rights Group is thrilled to announce that Rosalind “Roz” Dillon has joined the firm as an attorney. Roz began her career as a Staff Attorney for the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals where she worked mainly on prisoner civil rights and habeas corpus cases. After that, Roz joined the MacArthur Justice Center where she litigated a dozen federal appeals across the country to help soften an arbitrary procedural barrier that often derails prisoners’ civil rights actions. In addition to winning nearly 90% of those appeals, she successfully presented oral argument in two of them—one in front of the Ninth Circuit, which revived the lawsuit of a man who lost his opportunity to join a class-action lawsuit against the Boy Scouts of America for abuse he had faced as a boy when prison officials unconstitutionally confiscated the legal mail he needed to secure his spot as a plaintiff, and one in front of the Seventh Circuit, which allowed a man with a documented mental impairment to proceed on his claims against several prison guards who used physical violence to force his compliance with an unnecessary blood-draw and then sexually abused him. Roz also helped to litigate a variety of additional appeals on behalf of people who suffered civil rights violations in prisons and by law enforcement.
